Keeping the Starfire in tip-top shape took some effort on Mrs. Top, which featured creases pressed into the steel to hint at the look of a fabric top. The black roof color accentuated the faux convertible Potvin bought the Starfire brand-new, custom-ordering the color combination, which she had previously specified on a 1955 Oldsmobile hardtop she’d owned. The Starfire was equipped with a 345 horsepower 394 cubic-inch V-8 and automatic transmission. Knox, whose 1966 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special is featured in this week’s Sunday Automobiles section. “She was a wonderful lady, and she really loved that car,” said Mr. Potvin’s history with the Starfire, made it his mission to preserve the big coupe, which had been sitting unused in a garage since 1992. Potvin’s granddaughter, Julia Knox, and her then-husband Ray, had moved her from Warrensburg, N.Y., to a nursing facility in Glens Falls. Starfire, which she drove until the age of 90.” Potvin was well known in the Glens Falls area for the immaculate turquoise and black 1962 Oldsmobile 22, 2005, obituary for Edna Potvin in The Glens Falls Post-Star included a note about her car: “Mrs. The 1962 Starfire was distinguished from other Oldsmobile models by its unique aluminum trim, chrome engine dressing, and space age interior. ![]()
